The Biodata Of The Devil
 

1. Name

a. Abaddon or Apollyon = Destroyer.

Revelation 9:11
They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon.

b. Beelzebub = Prince of Demons.

Matthew 12:24
But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons."

c. Belial

2 Corinthians 6:15
What harmony is there between Christ and Belial ? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?

d. Lucifer

Isaiah 14:12
How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!

e. Satan

Luke 10:18
He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.

2. Character

a. The devil is an accuser. If you accuse people then you too are being like the devil.

Revelation 12:10
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.

b. The devil is conceited.

1 Timothy 3:6
He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil.

c. The devil is proud. "Iwill", "I am God"

Isaiah 14:13-14
13 You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.
14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High."


d. The devil is so proud that he even wants to test the son.

Matthew 4:5-6
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple.
6 "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"


e. He is a ruler. He is a powerful person. He is working powerfully in those who are being disobedient.

Ephesians 2:1-2
1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,
2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.


f. The devil is a power of the world. A prince of the world.

Ephesians 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

g. The devil is wicked and evil.

1 John 2:13
I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have known the Father.

h. The devil is malingnant. He tried to tell God what to do. He tries to tempt God.

Job 1:9
"Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied.

Job 2:4-5
4 "Skin for skin!" Satan replied. "A man will give all he has for his own life.
5 But stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face."


i. The devil is subtle. He is cunning and crafty.

Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"

j. The devil is very cunning.

2 Corinthians 11:3
But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

k. The devil is deceitful. He deceives us by giving good things that might lure us away from God.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15
13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ.
14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.


l. The devil is a schemer. The devil is always planning of how to get you out of the Kingdom.

Ephesians 6:11
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.

m. The devil is fierce and cruel.

Luke 8:29
For Jesus had commanded the evil spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.

n. The devil destroys and makes people suffer.

Luke 9:39
A spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams; it throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him.

o. The devil is looking to devour.

1 Peter 5:8
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

3. Work

a. The devil uses the scriptures. But he perverts it and uses it out of context.

Matthew 4:6
"If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"

b. The devil oppose people. He opposes God's word.

Zechariah 3:1
Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him.

c. The devil stops people.

1 Thessalonians 2:18
For we wanted to come to you--certainly I, Paul, did, again and again--but Satan stopped us.

d. He hinders the gospel. He blinds people. He makes people not to accept the truth.

2 Corinthians 4:4
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

e. He snatches away the word.

Matthew 13:18-19
18 "Listen then to what the parable of the sower means:
19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path.


f. He works lying miracles and wonders to deceive.

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12
9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders,
10 and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie
12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.


g. The devil can perform miracles.

Revelation 16:14
They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.

h. Satan walks around as an angel of light.

2 Corinthians 11:14
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.

i. He is the father of lies.

John 8:44
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

4. His end

a. Tormentation for ever.

Revelation 20:10
And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

b. Eternal fire.

Matthew 25:41
"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

c. Everlasting chains.

Jude 1:6
And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.

So satan will be destroyed. Let us then not follow him.
